Driver dies, 18 others injured as Luxury bus rammed into a truck on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A co-driver of a luxury bus travelling outside Lagos reportedly died while 18 passengers suffered varying degrees of injuries when the luxury bus Mercedes Benz Marcopolo, rammed into a Scania truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident occurred at about 22:10 hours and it happened around Car Park C U-turn via Redemption City.

According to traffic report, both vehicles were outbound Lagos, and the driver of the Marcopolo bus drove at an excessive speed and rammed into the Scania truck with number plate KSF 491 YD also on motion.

The Public Relations Officer,Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency TRACE,Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi gave the number of occupants of the bus as 68 made up of (35 male adults, 22 female adults and 11 children ).

Giving details about those injured, he said they were 10 male passengers, and 8 female passengers, and the driver who died was the co-driver of the bus.

Talking about the cause of accident, he said, “The driver of the Marcopolo bus rammed into the Scania truck due to his excessive speed and loss of control.”

He said the corpse of the driver has been deposited in a private morgue while the injured were taken to the hospital by operatives of the Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Service.

Akinbiyi added that the accident led to the road being reduced to one lane at the scene,but the traffic was effectively managed by TRACE, FRSC, Amotekun and the Police.
