In her continued efforts to put an end to indiscriminate parking on the highways across the State, Ogun State Compliance and Enforcement Agency, (TRACE), has promised to intensify sensitization and training of truck drivers on the dangers associated with illegal and indiscriminate parking on the highways.
The Most Senior Officer, (TRACE), Commander Elias Adedayo Omonayajo gave the charge at the TRACE’ Headquarters in Abeokuta during an interactive session with representatives of various industries, along Lagos/ Ibadan express way and Abeokuta /Sagamu Interchange.
Omonayajo who was represented by the Director of Administration and Supplies in the agency, Mr. Abubakar Adeduntan urged the stakeholders to always checkmate their drivers for them to be humane while on the wheels.
“As an Agency of government saddled with the responsibility of saving lives and property on the road, we would not condone indiscriminate parking and inhumane acts on the roads hence the need for continuous and intensified efforts in educating and retraining truck drivers towards reducing crashes on the major roads bearing in mind that safety is a shared and collective responsibility”, he said.
Commander Omonayajo advised articulated vehicle owners and drivers to desist from reckless driving, driving against traffic,
adding that the meeting would now be holding quarterly.
He said the interactive session was called for in order to intimate articulated vehicle drivers on the importance of obeying traffic laws and regulations at all times, he advised that they should always parked their trucks where the State government and their respective companies have been allotted for parking
Omonayajo however charged them to always check the condition of their vehicles before setting out for any journey to avoid breakdown as any truck found parked on the roadside even with the excuse of mechanical faults will not deter TRACE operatives to tow such vehicle away from the roadside, hinted that taskforce has been constituted to stop this menace as enforcement and apprehension of offenders would begin after the interactive session.
In their separate submissions, Mr Olaosebikan Olumide representative of International breweries thanked and appreciated the commitment of TRACE operatives on the roads most especially on how they respond on time to accident spots and clear the road immediately to ensure sanity in all roads in Ogun state, and as well acknowledged the stakeholders’ meeting which he said they had been clamoring for overtime the time.
He promised that they would continue to ensure that their drivers make use of the parking lots at all times saying that they are ready to support and cooperate with the taskforce constituted to ensure enforcement, the representative of Apples and Pears company, Mrs Stella Sanyerr commended TRACE for 24hours service delivery initiatives to ensure utmost safety on the roads, she said they value human lives, adding that her organisation organizes quarterly training and orientation programmes for their drivers.
She thereafter appeal to TRACE to make sure that their phone numbers are visible either through billboards so that they can contact them when there is any emangency.
